Adam Gyorgy Piano Recital
Goethe Auditorium. Bangkok, Thailand. May 7, 2013. Hungarian
pianist Adam Gyorgy, who now lives in NYC, made his first trip to Thailand, and his sponsorship by the Hungarian Embassy, insured that he played to a full house. Gyorgy's fluid and sensitive reading of Mozart's Piano Sonata in C major (K. 330) was the highlight of the evening for me, although others would surely hold that his playing for several bigger works, such as Liszt's paraphrase on Rigoletto, were more impressive. Unfortunately, the major work on Gyorgy's rather short program, played without an intermission, was his own composition titled "A Day in New York," which, although beautiful in spots, was mostly monotonous and unstructured. Playing with feeling, which he did, can only get you so far.
